October is known for spooky ghost stories and trick-or-treating, but for Red River ER, last month was known for something other than Halloween costumes. For our facility, it was Socktober, a month-long charity drive for people in need. Taking part in this world-wide event was heart warming for our staff, as we help Sherman’s generous community collect donations.
Socktober is a national collective which helps local shelters connect with charity drives in the month of October. It is a drive that focuses on collecting socks and undergarments for children and adults in our community. Red River ER took part this year by hosting a Socktober drive to collect clothing for The Crisis Center and North Texas Youth Connection. For the whole month, we accepted donations of socks, gloves, and other undergarments for kids, teenagers, and families that needed them this holiday season. Among our great neighborhood heroes who brought in new socks for donation, we had local businesses joining the drive as well. Virginia Cook Realtors, JP Hart Lumber, Eaton, McCullough & Pierson Insurance, and David Means Allstate took part and helped Red River ER meet out donation goals.
With so many generous donors, Red River ER collected over 500 pairs of socks during our Socktober charity drive and delivered them to The Crisis Center and North Texas Youth Connection. This is our first autumn being apart of the Sherman community, and it was truly touching for our staff to take part in such a big charity drive with so many good people and good businesses. As the holidays approach, Red River ER is proud to be helping not only our patients, but everyone in our area, who is in need. From charity drives to our 24/7 concierge-level medical care, Red River ER is here when you need us.
